Our club has encountered a hurdle regarding trail access – here’s the most recent information:
On Wednesday, 11/5/14 we met with the Greenville Board of Selectmen to do a presentation on the trail closure on Scamman Ridge. This closure has effectively shut off all access between Greenville and all points on the East side of town and North to Kokadjo. We discussed the problem and explained the challenges for snowmobile access related to it and have asked for their support as we continue to work towards a solution.
The board was extremely supportive of our clubs efforts thus far in pursuing alternate routes and is going to help in the effort to see what landowners will work with our club to allow a trail on their land. It’s a major set back after all the efforts that have been put into place over the last year, but not a complete road block. We left the meeting feeling encouraged that an alternate route will be worked out for the upcoming season. In regards to contact information: John Cobb is our club president and can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org and John Simko is our town manager and can be reached at John@GreenvilleME.com if you have specific questions or have suggestions on how you can help. I do want to reiterate that the board of selectman agree that recreation is vital to our community and snowmobiling in the Moosehead Lake region is a critical component to our economy. We will keep you posted as we know more. Stay tuned and thanks again for your support!
